For many years the design and aesthetics of womens clothing have been of particular interest to me. My designs often incorporate unconventional materials without sacrificing the wearability of the clothes. My main inspiration is the woman who is not afraid to be daring with her fashion choices. In addition, I often incorporate elements from my Bolivian heritage into my designs, such as the use of Andean textiles or reproducing the shapes of traditional native clothing. Finally I draw inspiration from other sources, such as Pedro Almodovar films and Madonnas personal style.
The signature of my designs is the mixture of unexpected and unconventional materials in an attempt to create unique pieces. I also incorporate techniques such as weaving, or bias cutting. Some of my favorite designers are Hussein Chalayan and John Galliano. What I admire the most about Chalayans work is his use of technology and I am interested in how Galliano draws inspiration from different cultures and time periods.
I create clothes with a unique point of view. I was born in South America, where I was exposed to ethnic clothing. Later in my life, I moved to the United States where I became interested in commercial attire. I am also fascinated by European design. The combination of my life experiences resulted in my unique aesthetic and my passion for an eclectic style.
I have had the opportunity to showcase multiple collections that display my versatility as a fashion designer. Of all the shows I have done, I am particularly proud of my achievements at New York and San Francisco Fashion Weeks. These collections reflected how I am influenced by my Bolivian cultural heritage and my ability to combine native trends with modern style through experimentation. I feel that the amalgamation of these contrasting ideas results in unique pieces with commercial appeal.
My career goal is to design clothes that can be worn by everybody. I understand that being original and having a point of view is fundamental in fashion, but I believe having appropriate business skills is also important. I am interested in growing as an artist while reinforcing my knowledge about fashion merchandising and business. Eventually, I would like to create my own company. There is a market need for a domestic brand that can be comparable to the Europeans H&M and Zara. I would like to sell clothes that are fashionable yet affordable and that are suitable for different types of people. I believe in creating unique and adventurous clothes that can appeal to a diverse customer base. Unlike other art forms, fashion is completely embedded in our everyday life. It is not something you watch from the distance, rather it is something you live among, something you see and feel every day and I am glad to be a part of it.
