Meet SHEIN X: The Designer Perspective

In case you haven’t heard of online retailer SHEIN: It’s been a major year for them as savvy Gen Z and millennial shoppers have named the affordable, trendy brand one of their top two favorite sites to shop (according to Fall 2020 and Spring 2021 survey by investment bank Piper Sandler). With all this buzz, SHEIN kicked off the year by establishing a very successful design incubator program called SHEIN X as a way to spotlight and amplify independent brands.

This new program which launched in January of 2021, helps aspiring artists grow. Accepted designers are given access to the brand’s extensive wheelhouse – including design concepts and sampling, photoshoots, influencer campaigns and dedicated features on the SHEIN site, social media and even pop up shops. The program puts the designers first – with a dedicated team working closely with the designers and their creations, and marketing the brands to a massive scale audience. In addition, the designers get to go home with a percentage of the profits made from their collections.

At present, there are over 50 designers that are being featured per month for the SHEIN X program. Many of these artists and indie designers have been waiting for the perfect opportunity to shine as creators and this unique collaborative approach continues to shape the way the fashion industry designs new collections.
