TECHNICAL DESIGNER, DENIM

Rag & bone is currently looking for a Technical Designer, Denim with strong experience in women’s and men’s denim. This person should have experience working with in-house patternmakers and domestic denim production as well as experience managing pattern priorities, organizing fittings, taking and passing off concise fit notes and communicating with factories. Denim is one of rag & bone’s largest categories and projected to continue to grow across both women’s and men’s. Responsibilities:

  • Work independently on designated styles starting from initial pass-off through production from proto to production stage

 

  • Partner with Design and Product Development on all new development styles

 

  • Work closely with patternmakers on each style from development through Production

 

  • Update Pattern Priority chart regularly – assign priority and communicate expected ready dates with patternmakers at the time of comments pass-off

 

  • Monitor progress of released patterns and follow up with Sample room on completion of protos and mock-ups

 

  • Initiate and maintain Technical Packages for all styles produced domestically and overseas

 

  • Organize Production fittings. Prepare list of garment to fit and timely update fit status. Proactively track domestic packages and estimate fit dates based on expected package arrival. Follow-up with domestic QC partners on anticipated PPs and TOPs.

 

  • Prepare garments and paperwork for fitting: evaluate it against previously made comments, check measurements and identify materials (actual vs. substitute). Be familiar with history of the garment

 

  • Take concise fit notes and timely pass them off to patternmakers.

 

  • Partnering with Design to approve protos and pre-production garment (all stages) in timely manner according with to Time & Action Calendar and Production Plan

 

  • Work with Patternmakers, Production and factories on identifying and resolving construction and workmanship issues

 

  • Communicate with domestic and overseas factories. Timely respond to all inquiries and requests via e-mail or through verbal communication

 

  • Assist in preparation for Runway Shows and Showroom openings

 

  • Record and follow-up on revisions prior and post Showroom openings, record comments in Line review chart and timely communicate updates to Patternmakers/overseas factories

 

  • Follow-up on issues from all meetings

 

  • Maintain base pattern chart

 

  • Ensure size & fit consistency

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Expertise in denim bottoms pattern making including grading, construction, & fit

 

  • Ability to effectively influence and convey necessary corrections with strong verbal and written communication skills

 

  • Ability to troubleshoot and problem solve in a fast-paced environment

 

  • Holds self and others accountable for work commitments and outcomes

 

  • Experience with managing a direct report

 

  • Strong ability to multitask and manage overlapping seasons and calendar timelines

 

  • Degree in Apparel Manufacturing, Design, Patternmaking or equivalent

 

  • 5+ years experience in the Apparel Industry including patternmaking and construction experience with follow knowledge of total production timeline.

 

  • Strong computer skills (MS Excel, MS Outlook, MS Word, Adobe Illustrator, and Photoshop)
